I will be in conversation with fashion scholars Lauren Downing Peters, Kimberly Jenkins, Monica Tiitton, and Vanessa Rosales on the current state of fashion studies.

It has been an honor to serve on the advisory board of The Model Alliance since 2017. Today I will moderate a conversation at 1pm EST between four activists and the challenges that they overcame in 2020. Tune in and learn more about The Model Alliance and the work that we are doing to amplify the voices of vulnerable members of the fashion supply chain.

A supplemental event to Guernica's "Clothes, Interrupted" special issue. For this event, contributor Jonathan Michael Square will share his research on the self-fashioning of free and enslaved women of color, arguing for an expanded understanding of fashion history that includes the contributions of people of African descent. Using the example of the tignon, a headscarf worn by black women in southern Louisiana, he will illuminate how Afro-Diasporic dress practices continue to influence the way many dress today.

CCCADI’s next Curators in Conversation is Thursday, October 29th at 6pm! For this month’s discussion, Jonathan Square will be in conversation with TK Smith. Square and Smith will discuss intersecting ideas in their curatorial practice, some of which include black visual and material culture, and their commitment to making curatorial research more accessible.
